VISTA #11: COVID-19 and Cancelled Flights

Hey you guys!

Sooo I am currently at home in Indonesia since mid February. My plan was to go back to Germany by 20 March but then everything turns into havoc (is it a correct situation to use the word in a sentence?).

My initial flight got cancelled 2 days before departure since my flight had a short layover (30 minutes) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the government announced that they wanted to do a national lockdown. Then I rescheduled my flight with my friend to the next week, 27 March. We still used the same airline though by this time. So the next flight was supposed to fly from Jakarta to Singapore (transit for around 3-4 hours) then to Amsterdam (transit for 4-5 hours) and to Hamburg. But then couple of days before my departure, I saw that my flight from Amsterdam to Hamburg had been cancelled without any notification to me either via the airline apps nor email. Basically, no notification really.

I tried to find a solution in this problem, so I contacted my friend who currently lives in Leiden and told her that my flight was cancelled and I was planning to take train from Amsterdam to Hamburg. I saw that the train was still operating and I asked her if I could stay at her place if there is any problem suddenly comes up and I have to stay in the Netherlands. Alright, problem solved right? Right? Ohhohoho of course not.

Then 2 days before my departure, my friend told me that Singapore forbid any short term visitor including transit. Great. Now my flight from Jakarta to Singapore has been cancelled. But weirdly enough, my flight from Singapore to Amsterdam was not cancelled. Umm, excuse me? How can I get to Singapore again? Swim from Jakarta to Singapore? Wut? My flight from Jakarta to Hamburg was with the same airline and I bought the ticket directly from them and I am not sure why they didnt cancel my flight from Singapore to Amsterdam as well. Because of that I could not really do anything, I could not reschedule my ticket :/ sad. I tried to contact them but it is sooooo hard. Nothing gets through basically. Oh well, I can kind of understand but come on…. And now the refund is not in the form of cash but travel voucher, correct me if I am wrong but as far as I know, you could not do that and the passengers are entitled to have their money back.

After couple of days being confused on what to do and when should I go back etc, I finally decided to refund my ticket. I guess it’s better than to get nothing in return? Besides, I dont know how long the ban will last so rescheduling flight again and again is pointless in my opinion

I am now planning to go back to Germany by finding a direct flight from Jakarta to Amsterdam. Hopefully i can find one. Again guys I am not trying to speak ill of the airline or anyone really, I just vent my frustration basically.

I know this is a difficult time for all of us, I am sorry for spreading such negativity but I just need to let it all out guys, I really just wanna go back home as I still have my classes and yes of course I understand there are many with problem similar or even worse to me. Stay strong, stay safe, stay healthy and please do what the government told you to do. Stay at home, so they could do their job and lets hope and pray (if you guys believe in God) that this too shall pass soon.

Cheers

VISTA #8: Public Butt

Hey you guys!

It’s VISTA time! Oh how I love blabbering on the internet to some random people that I dont know. Hahaha. Today I am going to share a little bit of my trip to Japan.

As you all know (probably not all of you though), I went to Japan last May-June. My family and I decided to go to Hiroshima because we wanted to see the Atomic Bomb Dome and also Miyajima Island, which is very very beautiful. But that’s another story to tell, now I want to talk a story before I went back to Tokyo.

So, before we went back to Tokyo we wanted to visit the Dome. So I took a shower in the morning. But because there was only 1 bathroom on each floor, I decided to went to another floor and took a shower there. Afterwards, I put on some clothes and turned off the lights. When I was about to get out and opened the bathroom door…. There, I saw it. A butt. Butt. Peach emoji. Butt. We get it Kem, you just saw a butt.

My brain told me to get back to the bathroom, say sorry and close the door. So I did that. Inside the dark bathroom, I was thinking. Why on earth I said sorry and stayed in this bathroom. I meant… I was about to go out and went back to my room. And he was the one who took off his pants on the corridor, in front of the bathroom. Yes, it was a man’s butt. I didnt see his face because I was facing the floor when that happened, hence what I saw. A butt. It was sooo awkward. I could not get out because I didnt know what to say or how to react if he was still outside. But if I kept staying in this dark bathroom, it would be so weird as well. If I turned on the lights, well… not really helping. Still a weird and awkward situation.

Fuck it. Imma gonna come out. So I opened the door and luckily he was not there. I think he was about to fix his pants or something but he never thought that someone was about to get out from the bathroom. I quickly went back to my room and get dressed before we left the hostel. I tried to keep quiet about this whole butt thing in front of my parents. Because if they found out they will get overly protective for some reason, get frantic and forbid me to travel alone again *insert upside down smiling emoji here* hahaha.

But hey, I told people on the internet instead hahaha

Cheers,

Run Kemmy Run!

Hey you guys!

This is a story about how I almost missed my flight. Yeaaaaa, told ya, I always, I repeat, ALWAYS, do stupid things during my travel.

My family planned to go to Japan during Eid Mubarak holiday last May-June. They departed on May 25 while I on May 28. I felt bad to actually leave the office again after disappear for 3 weeks on April. Don’t blame me, I got hospitalised for one week before I flew to the UK hahaha. So anyway, my flight was from Jakarta to Osaka and I was going to meet my family in Kyoto.

You see guys, at the end of the month, we have to do something called accrual. So I had to finish this accrual first and then went to the airport to catch my flight. AND my friends (yes friends, they are more than just a colleagues to me) kept teasing me so I could not leave the office. It’s basically because the other team had not finished their report yet. But I just cant left them, I mean, the report was our responsibility. Sooo, I left at 4.30 pm or something and managed to arrive at the airport without any problem. My flight was at 8pm and since I was fasting, I thought I could pray first then eat something real quick to break my fast.

At 6pm ish I went inside the gate and boy oh boy the queue was pretty long. I flew with Jetstar and I bought a seat last minute before I went to the airport. Just my luck, the airport service officer printed the wrong seat. So I asked him to change my seat according to what I have bought. Oh you guys, I saw this “LAST CALL” on the screen and I was panicking hahaha. Then I immediately went to the immigration then proceed to the boarding gate (slightly running!). But apparently the gate was not opened yet. Oh phew, lucky! I was still able to charge my phone first. I dont really like to bring power bank so yeah haha.

I had around 2 hours of transit in Singapore and 50 minutes stopover in Taipei. The ticket said that my flight from Singapore-Taipei-Osaka is using the same airplane so I thought oh okay I dont have to change airplane then. Apparently, I still had to get out from the plane although it was only a 50 minutes stop using the same airplane. To be honest, until now I dont know the difference between the two, but what I know now is that we still have to get out from the plane. AND 50 MINUTES IS FREAKING SHORT.

I got out from the plane and just walked calmly. Stupidly, I followed some people in front of me while trying to check where the transfer/flight details is. Heck, I could not even find one. By the time I realised… OH WOW I ARRIVED AT THE IMMIGRATION GATE. WHAT THE FUCK?! I WAS DOOMED.

I thought okay, this is it. I’m going to miss my flight. Bye. Gotta buy new tickets. Shit. What should I tell my parents. SHIIIITTT. My parents and brother will definitely rant about how stupid I am. Yep. Great.

OH WOW I ARRIVED AT THE IMMIGRATION GATE. WHAT THE FUCK?! I WAS DOOMED.

Trying to calm myself down, I asked a security there but apparently he could not speak English. So he said that I had to fill the form and went straight to the immigration. I AM SO DEAD. I DONT SEE OTHER PEOPLE NEARBY. DEAAAAD. DEAAAADDD.

So I walked back to where I was from mindlessly. Could not even tell what time is it here and how many minutes left for the airplane to depart. Then, I saw 3 airport staffs and went to them, hoping that they could show me the way. So I asked where should I go, I could not find any flight details around here. They could not speak English as well but they told me to go back by pointing the way. So I tried to ask desperately if they could check which gate is my flight from their phone. Apparently my gate was B1 or something and you know what, I was near gate D. HAHAHA. DEEEEEAAADD.

I ran while I was carrying my travel backpack (yes I only brought my backpack since I didnt buy any baggage). Then I finally saw the flight details near gate B. Guess what I saw. Yeah… “LAST CALL”

Oh my days, another last call.

I ran with all my might. Apparently my gate was very far which is at the end of the building. Oh and, after I reached the end of the corridor, I had to go down to actually reached my gate. I kinda forgot, I think it was gate B1R or something. So I ran again until I reached the gate.

LUCKILY, I ARRIVED JUST IN TIME!

When I arrived on my seat (at the back), I saw that most people that flew with me from Singapore were not there. So most of them are new passengers. Oh. That’s why when I blindly followed the previous passengers I just got lost hahahha

Moral of the story: Again, dont be stupid Kem. Dont just blindly follow people in front of you.

So that was it guys. A story how I almost missed my flights twice in a row and ran with all my might while carrying a backpack.

Cheers,

Kemmy
